History

Allenbuild have evolved from a business called Allen Brothers founded in 1946 by Samuel and Thomas Allen in the town of Wigan located, in the North West of England. Initially the business grew by undertaking projects for local authorities and public sector organisations. In the 1970s a separate design and build division was developed, this helped the business to attract private sector clients and undertake larger projects.

In June 2001 the Allenbuild construction business was acquired by YJL. YJL is the construction arm of the £500m turnover Renew Holdings plc, who has expanded in recent years by acquiring success construction brand names.

They felt the public sector strength of the Allenbuild business was complementary to theirs. YJL has provided further resources to expand the four regional businesses all of which are run by empowered Management.
